Our Heritage Month sponsored by Target is an editorial music celebration within the larger Hispanic Heritage Month. This photo series honored the living icons of Latin America who have paved the way for many artists across genres. We curated four music artists that have made historical contributions in their country of origin, yet remain largely obscure and unappreciated in English-language music media: 1) Alex Lora, the proverbial keeper of Mexican rocanrol flame, 2) Caferina Bánquez, the queen of Afro-Colombian Bullerengue, 3) Luzmila Carpio, the Bolivian ambassador of Pacha Mama’s (Mother Earth) voice, 4) Rubén Rada, the king of Uruguayan black Camdombe
